Raymond Kenneth Wilson, Jr. (“Ken”) is a partner in the San Diego and Los Angeles offices of Lewis Brisbois. His practice focuses on appellate law and also includes the defense of catastrophic personal injury claims, premises liability claims, and professional malpractice claims.

Mr. Wilson has achieved considerable success in his appellate practice. Mr. Wilson has obtained favorable published opinions affirming a defense verdict in a catastrophic personal injury/products liability case where Plaintiff sought in excess of $26 million from the jury and in overturning the denial of a petition to compel arbitration. He has also obtained multiple favorable unpublished decisions in the past two years in cases ranging from professional negligence in healthcare and real estate, catastrophic personal injuries in auto accidents, and in wrongful death claims in which the clients were awarded over $67,000 in appellate attorney’s fees by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In addition, Mr. Wilson has written three winning briefs to the Nebraska Court of Appeal.

In addition to appellate briefing and oral argument, Mr. Wilson is also often assigned to deploy his trial experience as embedded appellate counsel during trial. During such assignments he assists trial counsel to achieve success and preserve the record before, during, and after trial through dispositive motions, trial briefing and research, in limine motions, strategy, and reporting to clients and carriers throughout trial. He then assists trial counsel with post-trial motions and handles any appeals in those matters.

In the trial courts, Mr. Wilson has favorably resolved a variety of matters for his clients through settlement, dispositive motion, trial, and appeals in state and federal courts in both California and Nebraska. He has obtained defense verdicts for an OB/GYN accused of medical malpractice, an insurance broker in an errors and omissions case, and a mega-church who employed a person accused of sexually assaulting a child. Mr. Wilson has obtained multiple defense summary judgments in cases where damages were claimed to be $10 million or more and obtained favorable settlements for individuals as well as corporate, public, and youth serving entities in both catastrophic personal injury and sexual assault and molestation cases.

Mr. Wilson is a former professional longboard surfer and avid sailor. He spends most of his free time with his wife – an internationally ranked champion sailor – and children at home or on the water. Mr. Wilson also enjoys playing golf and riding his road bicycle. He is currently serving as Commodore of the Coronado Yacht Club.
