Stephen Rickershauser is a partner in the New York office of Lewis Brisbois. Mr. Rickershauser represents employers in a wide range of litigation matters, including claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations. He advocates for employers in state and federal courts and before various administrative agencies and arbitral panels. He also represents clients in complex business disputes and commercial litigation, and regularly assists the firm’s Entertainment, Media & Sports Practice with the defense of litigation matters relating to claims of trademark infringement, copyright ownership, and defamation.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Rickershauser served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the New York City Law Department for almost four years. While in the Labor and Employment Law Division, Mr. Rickershauser counseled and defended the City of New York, as well as its agencies and employees, in federal and state employment litigation matters. He was also a key member of the defense team representing the Board of Education in a high-exposure class action with over 4,500 claimants seeking damages under Title VII disparate impact.
Before that, Mr. Rickershauser worked in the Manhattan Tort Division of the Law Department, where he managed pre-trial discovery for a caseload of over 100 actions, including high-risk matters. Mr. Rickershauser obtained numerous favorable decisions for the City, as well as its agencies and employees, through affirmative motion practice, settlement negotiations, stipulations of discontinuance and jury verdicts. He also served as lead counsel and second chair in several trials, including serving as second chair on the defense team of a high-exposure Board of Education negligence trial.
As part of his extensive litigation training with the Law Department, Mr. Rickershauserparticipated in a trial program with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Training.
Mr. Rickershauser is admitted to practice in New York, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
