Emily Hyatt is an associate in the San Diego office of Lewis Brisbois. She specializes in Complex Business and Commercial Litigation, White Collar Criminal Defense, and Appeals. Emily is skilled in both civil and criminal law, handling pre- and post-litigation matters, and with the distinctions between California and Federal law.
Emily was born and raised in San Diego, California. She received her Bachelor of Behavioral Science degree at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, where she graduated summa cum laude. After HSU, Emily attended California Western School of Law where she was awarded a full academic merit scholarship for each year and graduated in the top 5% with a 4.02 GPA. While attending law school, Emily worked as a law clerk for the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of California in the Civil Division, the San Diego District Attorney’s Office in the Economic Crimes Division, and the California Attorney General’s Office in the Criminal Appeals, Writs and Trials Division. At California Western, she served on the board of the California Western Law Review as the Senior Notes and Comments Editor. Emily received invaluable experience with the federal court system when she externed for the Honorable Daniel E. Butcher, a magistrate judge for the United States District Court, Southern Division. Emily excels in her legal writing, research, and advocacy, having received Academic Excellence Awards in her first and third-year legal writing courses, Legal Skills I and STEPPS I, and in California Evidence. Emily’s experience also includes working on Real Estate and Land Use Litigation, Securities Fraud, Antitrust, and Derivative Lawsuits, Construction Defect, and General Liability matters.
Currently, Emily enjoys participating in legal organizations such as the San Diego County Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. She also recently enjoyed speaking on a Business Law panel to students at California Western School of Law.
