Mark Cronenwett is a partner in the Dallas office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Consumer Financial Services, Complex Business & Commercial Litigation, and Appellate Practices.

Mark is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer, having handled 1000’s of cases throughout the state and federal courts in Texas.

Mark’s special area of focus since the 2008 Housing Crisis has been defending banks, mortgage lenders and loan servicers in litigation concerning residential and commercial loan defaults. Mark advises his clients on the nuances of Texas property and banking law and consumer-protection statutes such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Real Estate Settlement Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. 

Mark has given industry presentations on the ability of financial-services clients to challenge plaintiff’s lack of Article III standing when sued for an alleged violation of a federal statute, on trainings banking institutions can provide their employees to avoid FDCPA liability and the many specific requirements under Texas law for the origination of home equity and reverse mortgages.

Mark has an insurance defense background as a former partner at an insurance defense firm in Dallas. He represented Fortune 500 companies and insurance carriers in trial and appellate matters in claims for professional liability, premises defects, products liability, medical malpractice, trucking accidents, First Amendment claims, and first party insurance claims. 

Mark is active in his community. He presently represents the greater Las Colinas area on the Irving City Council. He previously acted as the Chair of the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission, the Chair of the 2018 Irving Bond Committee and the Chair of Texas Increment Funding District No. 1. 

Mark also serves his community through non-profit organizations. He previously served on the Board, including as President, of the Irving YMCA.  He currently is a member of the board and Pro Bono counsel for a charitable organization in Dallas that provides housing and financial assistance to financially-distressed families. He is also presently active on a board that advises the Church of the Incarnation at the University of Dallas. Mark previously served as the President of the St. Thomas More Society in Dallas.

Mark is a member of the Litigation, Appellate, Consumer and Commercial Law and Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law sections of the Texas Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the State of Texas, all four federal districts in Texas, both federal districts in Arkansas and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
