Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (June 28, 2024) - Fort Lauderdale Managing Partner Michael G. Platner recently spoke with BetterInvesting Magazine for an article titled, “Artificial Intelligence: Looking at New Technology from the Investor’s Viewpoint,” which discusses the potential impacts that artificial intelligence (AI) may have on the investment industry.

As the article observes, many forecasters predict that AI will be “one of the most important developments” in the investment industry and that its effects will be “profound.” Mr. Platner told BetterInvesting that the technology could potentially place individual investors in line with professional investors. He explained that the costs of funds that use AI may be lowered, which would allow individual investors to invest in a wider selection of funds. He also noted that AI likely will allow individual investors to benefit from time-sensitive information that was once available only to the most sophisticated, professional investors.

In further discussing AI’s impact on individual investors, Mr. Platner described, “A lot of investor decision making is about the time it takes to do research and due diligence on the investment. . . . AI can expedite that and create greater speed and once again greater overall intelligence. [It] can be a resource for individual investors that puts the individual close to being on the playing field of a professional investor.”

Mr. Platner serves as chair of Lewis Brisbois’ national Corporate Practice and co-chair of its Securities & Corporate Finance Practice. He works with clients to develop and execute business savvy legal strategies for businesses from an early stage through maturity, sale, and merger. In addition, he regularly leads “Going Liquid” workshops, which provide actionable advice to business owners who want to position their businesses successfully for growth, value creation, and ultimate liquidity events.
