Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (July 2, 2025) - Lewis Brisbois is pleased to welcome Maurice A. Johnson to its Fort Lauderdale office as a partner in the Administrative Law & Regulatory, Government Investigations & White-Collar Defense, and Complex Business & Commercial Litigation Practices.
With more than 20 years of experience as a prosecutor in the country’s federal and state systems, Mr. Johnson joins the firm from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida where he served as the executive assistant U.S. attorney – the third highest ranking position in the district. During his tenure, Mr. Johnson managed a variety of securities and commodities matters involving sophisticated and complicated fraud schemes, worked on parallel investigations with government agencies, and collaborated with senior members from the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). In addition, Mr. Johnson helped supervise the chiefs of the Criminal, Civil, Asset Forfeiture, and Appellate Divisions of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In describing his decision to enter private practice with Lewis Brisbois, Mr. Johnson explained that he was interested in “seeing the law through a different lens” and “providing justice for others outside of the criminal sector.” He explained, “I wanted to be a part of the sophisticated white-collar practice that Sean Shecter was building. I am looking forward to practicing in a more business-oriented area where I believe I can apply my many years of experience, particularly with respect to working with government agencies in the securities and commodities space.”

Mr. Johnson earned his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. He is admitted to practice in Florida and New York.
