Chris Meeks is a partner in the Atlanta office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Insurance Underwriting Advisory Services, Insurance Coverage, Bad Faith Litigation, and Appellate Practices. Chris has extensive experience in policy analysis, claim counseling, and trial and appellate litigation across a range of insurance coverage matters, including those involving general liability, pollution, construction defect, first party property, employment, professional liability, errors and omissions, public entity liability, surplus lines, asbestos, toxic torts, and extra-contractual claims. Chris’ writing and investigatory proficiency as well as his diverse defense experience, including the areas of construction, oil and gas, maritime, asbestos, professional liability, education, and defamation, allows him to provide sound counsel to insurance coverage clients facing a wide range of claims and suits.

Chris understands the challenges that arise when events place clients under significant public scrutiny, and he regularly takes an active and decisive role in these matters. For example, he successfully managed clients’ interests in litigation arising from the failure of the Louisiana Superdome’s roof during Hurricane Katrina, the Deepwater Horizon casualty, the litigation arising from the bankruptcies of several celebrities, the Atlanta Public Schools Criterion Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) cheating scandal, and numerous insurance coverage matters involving high-profile insureds and events.

Chris also has an interest in how emerging technological, societal, and political issues and changes may impact the legal and market landscape for insurers. He has presented and advised clients on a wide range of these subjects, including the sharing/gig economy, lithium-ion batteries, cryptocurrency, tort reform, and cannabis cultivation.

Further, Chris understands the challenges that newly formed companies and entrepreneurs often encounter. Prior to entering private practice, he was part of a multidisciplinary team that commercialized an analytical software tool for engineers and scientists, which resulted in the formation of a successful software company that remains in operation.
