Celebrating Our Differences, Enriching Our Communities

Lewis Brisbois’ Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Lewis Brisbois, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are integral components of our workplace culture and everyday life. We aim to create an inclusive atmosphere of opportunity, one that reflects the vibrant diversity of the clients we represent. Our dedication to these values has propelled us to become one of the nation’s largest and most successful law firms. Under the leadership of our Chief Diversity Partner and Director of Diversity & Business Development—alongside our firm management, Women’s Initiative, and longstanding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee—we maintain a multi-faceted approach to achieving our goals. This approach includes nationwide mentorship programs, firmwide training, national affinity groups, relationships with law-related associations, fellowships, and plans for future initiatives. These varied methods are all designed to hire, retain, and promote diverse and exceptional legal talent.

As a collective, Lewis Brisbois is dedicated to bringing about meaningful change within the legal profession. To continue this sustainable and realistic progress, the firm has developed and implemented the following three foundational principles:

  1. To strengthen Lewis Brisbois by encouraging the hiring, supporting, mentoring, promoting, and retaining of attorneys and business professionals from historically underrepresented groups based on merit, potential, and effort.
  2. To actively maintain a workplace culture in which all individuals feel respected and valued—regardless of one's race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, family status, religion, age, disability, national origin, or other status.
  3. To provide ongoing opportunities and resources to all employees so that the firm may continue to embrace and cultivate its diversity.

Guided by these core principles, we hold ourselves accountable and committed to advancing the broader goal of equity within both our workplace and the larger legal profession.

At Lewis Brisbois, our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programming is dynamic, comprehensive, and designed to foster a lasting impact. Through consistent dedication, we have built a strong, varied framework that supports diverse representation at all levels while simultaneously cultivating an inclusive culture through mentorship, training, and policy initiatives.

The team of lawyers and staff who lead Lewis Brisbois’ diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and initiatives includes: San Bernardino Administrative Partner and National Healthcare Group Co-Chair Rima Badawiya, who serves as the firm’s Chief Diversity Partner; Director of Diversity & Business Development Janet Burt; and New York Partner Karen Campbell, along with Los Angeles Partner Alexis Crump, who serve as co-chairs of the firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. Rima, Janet, Karen, and Alexis work directly with the firm’s leadership to support and expand our diversity mission, while promoting firmwide education and awareness of diversity and its ability to enrich our workplace, our communities, our profession, and our everyday lives.
