Julio Cortes is an associate in the Orange County office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Professional Liability and Entertainment, Media, and Sports Practices. He practices in both litigation and transactional matters.

Mr. Cortes has substantial experience in the entertainment industry, having worked across both the talent and studio sides in business and legal affairs for film and television. He has negotiated option and purchase agreements for the acquisition of rights, including scripts, life rights, and literary works, as well as talent agreements for writers, directors, and actors on both guild and non-guild projects. His experience also includes negotiating producer agreements, production services agreements, distribution agreements, and production legal. Mr. Cortes can assist from the development of a project through distribution, as well as rights management to maximize commercial value.

In the Professional Liability area, Mr. Cortes practices as a defense attorney representing clients against a broad spectrum of claims, including negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, premises liability, vicarious liability, products liability, and more. Mr. Cortes is extremely detail oriented and heavily involved in every step of the process from the initial response to a claim through preparing for trial. Mr. Cortes has substantial experience in propounding and responding to written discovery and taking depositions. His work also includes preparing for and participating in mediation, performing complex legal research and motion practice such as preparing and responding to demurrers, motions to strike, motions for summary judgment and more, often obtaining favorable results for his clients.
