Geldens is a member of the firm’s appellate practice group. He is a 2003 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was on the Dean’s List, the Jessup moot court team, and the executive editorial board of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law. As an undergraduate at the University of Miami, he was on the intercollegiate debate team. He was also inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. At graduation, he was awarded cum laude and general honors and received the top graduate award from the Department of Political Science.

He has substantial appellate experience, which includes oral arguments in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Florida Supreme Court, and Florida’s District Courts of Appeal. His experience includes direct appeals, non-final appeals, collateral review, and writs such as certiorari, mandamus, and prohibition. Mr. Geldens has handled hundreds of appellate cases, and has authored briefs addressing questions of first impression, interpretation of statutes, and pre- and post-trial legal disputes. He is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, and as counsel of record has briefed opposition to certiorari.

During his two-plus decades of law practice in Florida before joining the firm, Mr. Geldens worked in private practice at an international law firm, two statewide law firms, and a Coral Gables litigation boutique. He also completed two clerkships at Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal. During seven years as an Assistant Attorney General in Criminal Appeals for Florida’s Office of the Attorney General, he handled appeals in many complex and high-profile cases.

Mr. Geldens has handled cases at all levels of Florida’s court system and in Florida’s federal district courts. His litigation experience includes business torts, contract disputes, statutory claims such as FDUTPA (“little FTC Act”) and RICO, employment disputes, products liability and breach of warranty claims, securities fraud, real estate disputes, and whistleblower claims. He also has experience in arbitral forums such as the FINRA and the AAA, with cases addressing employment, securities, and business disputes. His clients have included individuals, large institutions in a variety of industries, and small businesses. He is fluent in Spanish and has represented clients from Latin America and Spain.

Mr. Geldens served as an executive editor on the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Law Journal, as a volunteer judge for law school moot court competitions, and as a visiting teacher for multiple sessions of the Florida Civil Procedure class at the University of Miami Law School. In addition, Mr. Geldens has taught continuing legal education courses and was an author for Lexis-Nexis’s Florida Civil Procedure treatise.
