Carol Girgis is an associate in the San Francisco office of Lewis Brisbois and is a member of the Intellectual Property & Technology and Complex Business & Commercial Litigation practices. 

Carol Girgis's practice focuses on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation. She is a registered patent attorney and has broad experience in intellectual property matters ranging from patent infringement litigation, trademark and copyright infringement litigation, trade secret misappropriation actions, as well as patent and trademark prosecution. Carol has significant trial experience in state courts, federal district courts, and before the International Trade Commission in complex patent infringement matters, as well as in USPTO matters including patent post-grant proceedings and trademark cancellations and interferences. 

Carol also has significant experience involving directors and officers liability, founder and corporate disputes involving breach of fiduciary duty, securities litigation and FINRA arbitrations, lender-borrower disputes, professional liability defense, employment-related causes of action, and more. 

Carol excels in performing thorough legal research and preparing well-researched motions and oppositions, often securing dismissals at the pleading stage of litigation. Carol has an extensive prior background as a software engineer and specifically in the development of mobile and browser-based applications. Carol is passionate about practicing law and zealously advocates for each and every client and case.

• Secured favorable verdict for complainant in complex patent infringement action before International Trade Commission, finding infringement of asserted claims across multiple asserted patents. 
• Secured dismissal with prejudice of cross-complaint alleging fraudulent business practices in complex civil matter at the pleading stage.
• Won opposition to California Code of Civil Procedure sections 473 and 1008 motions resulting in dismissal of cross-complaint with prejudice in complex civil matter. 
• Opposed enforcement of arbitration agreement by petition for writ of mandate in the Court of Appeal of the State of California, Fourth Appellate District. 
• Secured zero-cost settlement of complex insurance defense matter wherein liability was disputed between landlord and tenant cross-defendants.
