Sam F. Hanna is a Partner in the New York office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the General Liability practice group, where he defends all types of premises liability matters, including slip and fall, ceiling collapse, lead paint and mold exposure, Dram Shop Act and other premises claims, as well as automobile and pedestrian accidents. Mr. Hanna is also a member of the Healthcare practice group, where he represents healthcare agencies in claims involving common law negligence, negligent hiring/supervision/training, wrongful death, judgment error claims, medical malpractice and statutory violations. 

Mr. Hanna’s expertise is analyzing legal issues in a thorough, yet concise, manner to enable clients to easily understand their exposure based on an astute explanation of the applicable law and anticipated damages, along with an identification of affirmative defenses, dispositive motions, and risk transfer opportunities. In the court room, Mr. Hanna is known for being a zealous advocate able to persuasively convey a client’s position to obtain favorable outcomes.  

Prior to Lewis Brisbois, Mr. Hanna developed his civil defense experience at a regional law firm in the tri-state area, where he specialized in defending matters involving New York construction and labor law, railroad and automobile transportation, products liability, and toxic tort cases, including asbestos claims. 

Prior to civil defense work, Mr. Hanna gained valuable trial experience as an Assistant Prosecutor with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office in Newark, New Jersey, where he prosecuted cases from grand jury through guilty plea or trial, including obtaining guilty verdicts on numerous first and second-degree charges, including homicide. As a Judicial Law Clerk in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Mr. Hanna successfully mediated cases involving landlord-tenant and small claims disputes. While in law school, Mr. Hanna had the distinct privilege of serving as a judicial intern for the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Legal Experience

While earning his law degree at Rutgers University School of Law, Mr. Hanna served as the Managing Notes and Comments Editor of the Rutgers Computer & Technology Law Journal, and participated in the Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition.
