Adam S. Johnson

Adam S. Johnson is a partner in the Madison County, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri offices of Lewis Brisbois.  He is a member of the firm’s General Liability, Transportation, and Traumatic Brain Injury Defense Practices, and is a member of the firm’s National Trial Practice Team.  Mr. Johnson is a long-time Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and has tried more than 20 jury trials in state and federal courts throughout Illinois and Missouri. 

Mr. Johnson is counsel for numerous national insurance carriers and specializes in high-risk cases that are likely to be taken to trial.  Clients regularly seek his experience in defending personal injury, traumatic brain injury, wrongful death, transportation, product liability, and commercial disputes.  Mr. Johnson routinely defends cases involving vehicle and trucking accidents, including cases alleging serious personal injury and property damage. 

Mr. Johnson is a former law clerk at the Missouri Court of Appeals and is an experienced appellate attorney.  He has handled matters before the US Supreme Court and federal and state courts of appeal throughout the country.

Prior to law school, Mr. Johnson was a social worker and managed a group home for adults with developmental disabilities at a local nonprofit.  When not at work, Mr. Johnson can be found canoeing and fishing throughout the Midwest and Canada.

  • Brosman v. Tisdale, No. 23-LA-211, Sangamon County, Illinois (July 2025) – defense verdict
  • Deadmond v. Wildhaber and Clutts, No. 22-LA-545, Madison County, Illinois (May 2025) – directed verdict in catastrophic TBI case where jury subsequently entered a verdict of $33 million against our client’s co-defendant.
  • Moore v. Mandell, No. 17-L-80, Jackson County, Illinois (Aug. 2024) – in catastrophic personal injury case involving a paraplegic who subsequently died, obtained reversal on appeal of $800,000+ verdict and on retrial obtained jury verdict of only 15% of amount plaintiff requested the jury award.
  • Land v. Harvey, No. 18-L-1150, Madison County, Illinois (June 2024) – defense verdict on retrial.
  • Beckham v. Peterman, No. 19-L-381, Madison County, Illinois (February 2024) – defense verdict, affirmed on appeal in Beckham v. Peterman, 5-24-0623 (Ill. Ct. App. 2025)
  • Kirkwood v. France, No. 2021-L-6, Montgomery County, Illinois (Nov. 2023) – defense verdict.
  • Burkett v. Beauman, 17-L-160, Sangamon County, Illinois (Aug. 2023) – secured verdict for 5% of the amount plaintiff requested the jury award.
  • Gould v. Collins, No. 20-L-1295, Madison County, Illinois (Aug. 2023) – awarded summary judgment in significant personal injury action.
  • Pieszchalski v. McWhorter, No. 2021-L-4, Shelby County, Illinois (Apr. 2023) – defense verdict.
  • Land v. Harvey, No. 18-L-1150, Madison County, Illinois (Mar. 2023) – defense verdict
  • Jacoby v. Evetts, No. 21-L-2, Johnson County, Illinois (Jan. 2023) – secured verdict for less than 1% of the amount plaintiff requested the jury award.
  • White v. Dean, No. 20-L-0176, St. Clair County, Illinois (May 2022) – defense verdict.
  • Murphy v. Barr, No. 20-L-39, Effingham County, Illinois (Mar. 2022) – defense verdict against one plaintiff and secured verdict for 3% of the amount requested by the remaining plaintiff.
