Todd Romano is a partner in the Providence office of Lewis Brisbois. His practice centers on matters involving general lability, public agency and municipal law, real estate and land use litigation, and corporate landlord issues.
Todd has a broad practice that ranges from liability defense to land use law to the criminal prosecution of misdemeanor offenses. His practice, however, has focused on liability defense, land use, breach of contract claims, and other civil litigation. He represents businesses and individuals in both state and federal courts in the defense of premises liability claims, automobile accidents, and products liability cases, including insurance coverage matters. In addition, Todd has experience representing clients in real estate litigation matters, including representing title insurance companies in all varieties of insurance claims and actions, as well as individuals and business entities before local Planning and Zoning Boards. Todd is and has been an assistant solicitor to local municipalities serving as legal counsel to Planning and Zoning Boards and prosecuting misdemeanor crimes and building code and housing violations. Todd represents a variety of landlords. Primarily, he represents residential landlords, but also has experience representing commercial landlords. In this area of representation, he provides a full spectrum of services to his landlords from advising and writing leases, to ADA compliance, termination of tenancy and all court proceedings.
Todd is experienced in all aspects of litigation from preparing initial pleadings to conducting discovery all the way through trial and appeal. Of significance, he has drafted and successfully argued motions to dismiss and for summary judgment; obtained a significant number of arbitration awards that were favorable to his clients; and successfully resolved disputes through mediation. He has been involved in and tried both jury and bench trials. In addition, he has drafted briefs to the Rhode Island Supreme Court and successfully argued before it on multiple occasions.
Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, he was an associate attorney at a well respected local firm for 17 years. Before that he served as a law clerk to the Connecticut Superior Court and while in law school, served as a student law clerk to Judge Arthur Votolato of the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Rhode Island.
