Maria Thompson is an associate with trial experience in the Las Vegas office of Lewis Brisbois. She combines her 10-year background as an investigative journalist with her passion for advocating for members of the Southern Nevada community. Maria primarily focuses on general liability litigation and medical malpractice, helping clients mitigate risk and resolve disputes efficiently through strategic defense. She’s handled matters involving wrongful death, defamation, and employment and labor disputes in state and federal court. She does pro bono representation of children in foster care through Legal Aid of Southern Nevada.

Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Maria worked as the senior producer for the NBC affiliate in Las Vegas. She led the news team’s investigative unit, focused on juvenile justice and child welfare in Nevada. Her work on various projects, including presidential debates and accountability journalism, received several state and regional awards. Her prior experience as a reporter gives her the skills for high-level client counseling through every stage of litigation. Maria pursued law to further her investigative skills and better understand the complexities of the judicial system. While in school, she clerked for the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Public Defenders Office, and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Maria graduated in the top 5% of her class from University of Nevada, Las Vegas' William S. Boyd School of Law. She was selected as commencement speaker and received Pro Bono Honors in part for her work with the Clark County’s Truancy Diversion Program.

Outside of law, Maria is an active member of the Southern Nevada Alumnae Chapter of Chi Omega. She enjoys trying new workout classes and attending shows and concerts in the entertainment capital of the world.
