Angela Zanin Named Founding Co-Chair of Los Angeles County Unity Bar

Los AngelesCalif. (August 2, 2024) - Los Angeles Partner Angela Zanin was recently named Founding Co-Chair of the Los Angeles County Unity Bar (LACUB), a human rights organization dedicated to promoting diversity in the judiciary.

Ms. Zanin, the immediate past President of the Italian American Lawyers Association Los Angeles (IALA), gave the opening remarks along with her fellow Founding Co-Chair Magdalena Casas, who is the immediate past President of the Mexican American Bar Association (MABA), at an event with 600 attendees in downtown Los Angeles last month. Governor Gavin Newsom's Judicial Appointment Secretary Luis Cespedes headlined the event, and highlights included video messages from Governor Newsom, U.S. Senator Laphonza Butler, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. California Supreme Court Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero and Associate Justice Martin Jenkins were in attendance, and a keynote address was given by Presiding Justice Gonzalo Martinez (Cal. Ct. App. 2nd Dist., Div. 7). The night included a champagne tower, Mariachi, Japanese Taiko Drummers, Indian Dhol Baraat Band, and a balloon drop.

The LACUB, founded in early 2024, is comprised of diverse bar associations, based on principles of equity, fairness, and justice, with a primary goal to champion, support and endorse highly qualified, diverse judicial candidates who embody these qualities.

The organization is comprised of 9 bar associations: MABA, IALA, Japanese American Bar Association (JABA), Philippine American Bar Association (PABA), Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (BWL), Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association (SCCLA), South Asian Bar Association (SABA), Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA), and the Vietnamese American Bar Association (VABA).

Ms. Zanin is a member of Lewis Brisbois' Bad Faith Litigation, Insurance Coverage, Surety, and Italy Practices. She focuses her practice on insurance coverage matters, and specializes in surety law, insurance guaranty association law, independent counsel disputes, first and third-party policies, and underlying claims related to wildfires, pollution, intellectual property, and construction defects.
