Jason Berger, Matt Cottingham Named to Billboard’s 2025 Top Music Lawyers List

Philadelphia, Pa./Nashville, Tenn. (April 23, 2025) - Philadelphia Partner Jason Berger and Nashville Co-Managing Partner Matt Cottingham were named to Billboard's 2025 Top Music Lawyers list. 

The Billboard article announcing the honorees highlighted Mr. Berger's and Mr. Cottingham's dedication to their music industry clients. As the article noted, in addition to "continuing to provide representation to clients including Wyatt Flores and Fridayy, Berger and Cottingham helped platinum-selling artists Tucker Wetmore and BNYX negotiate new recording contracts with their respective labels" in 2024. 

The two partners told Billboard they are committed to having their clients fairly paid, with Mr. Cottingham remarking that the music industry should work on “finding a solution to adequately compensate songwriters in the digital streaming era, while navigating the practical limitations within the current framework of the major-label system.”

Mr. Cottingham also discussed his support for the nonprofit ACM Lifting Lives, the philanthropic partner of the Academy of Country Music (ACM).

“As a member of the ACM board of directors and a passionate supporter of the country music community, ACM Lifting Lives is near and dear to my heart," he told Billboard. "Lifting Lives provides aid in times of need to those in the industry, with a focus on health-related initiatives.”

Mr. Berger is a member of Lewis Brisbois’ Entertainment, Media & Sports Practice. His strength lies in recognizing talented artists, individuals, and companies, developing strategies to achieve long-term success, and protecting their interests by rigorously negotiating and drafting the agreements forming the basis of their business relationships. Mr. Berger is an active member of the Recording Academy’s Philadelphia Chapter. He also is an adjunct professor at Drexel University’s acclaimed Music Industry Program.

Mr. Cottingham is a member of the Entertainment, Media, & Sports Practice who specializes in entertainment, intellectual property and business law represents individuals and companies in the entertainment industry and provides experienced guidance to recording artists, songwriters, record producers, independent music publishers, new media companies, and independent record labels.
