Lewis Brisbois Ranks Among Top Five Law Firms for Defending Federal Commercial Litigation Matters
Los Angeles, Calif. (October 14, 2022) - Lewis Brisbois has ranked among the top five law firms for defending the highest number of U.S. federal commercial litigation cases between 2019 and 2021, according to a report issued by legal analytics and data company Lex Machina.
As a Law360 article on the report explains, Lex Machina included more than 21,000 federal cases in its analysis, defining commercial litigation matters as contracts cases in which two businesses litigate claims involving breach of contract and/or business torts, including fraud, tortious interference, and conversion. Under this definition, Lewis Brisbois defended 169 cases in 50 districts during the relevant three-year period, allowing the firm to achieve its fourth-place position in the report’s ranking system.
In addition to analyzing which law firms handled the highest volume of commercial litigation matters, the report concludes that the pandemic caused a sharp overall decline in commercial cases between 2020 and 2021. It also notes that New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago have remained the most active federal venues.
