Sean Shecter Speaks With Law360 on White-Collar Enforcement Trends
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (July 3, 2025) – Fort Lauderdale Partner Sean P. Shecter recently spoke with Law360 for an article titled, “The 5 Big Enforcement Trends White Collar Attys Must Know,” which discusses trends in white-collar enforcement that are likely to emerge during the second half of 2025.
As the article explains, “uncertainty lingers around the future of some major enforcement areas” in the white-collar arena. The article goes on to describe the questions and issues that exist with respect to five areas: Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) enforcement, voluntary self-disclosure of company misconduct, crypto enforcement, clemency actions, and public corruption enforcement.
On the topic of crypto enforcement, the article notes that although the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has applied an approach under the Trump administration that is different from the more “aggressive playbook” it followed previously, crypto enforcement is not disappearing. Mr. Shecter told Law360, “We're seeing indications that they're going back to their bread-and-butter with an increased focus on accounting firms and typical meat-and-potatoes securities fraud." He added, "Those who think that SEC activity will lessen are mistaken.”
Mr. Shecter – a former federal prosecutor – serves as co-chair of Lewis Brisbois’ Government Investigations & White-Collar Defense Practice, as chair of its Supply Chain Due Diligence Practice, and as a member of its AI Committee. In addition to having extensive experience defending clients in regulatory, white-collar criminal, and complex civil litigation matters, he is proficient in advising clients on emerging AI regulations and compliance issues.
