Kathryn Bonorchis Featured in VADA’s Member Spotlight

Washington, D.C. (January 30, 2024) - Virginia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Partner Kathryn Bonorchis was featured in the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys’ (VADA) January Member Spotlight. VADA’s monthly Member Spotlight consists of an interview with one of its members concerning their professional life, personal life, and perspectives on a variety of topics.

Ms. Bonorchis – who currently serves as a member of VADA’s Board of Directors, as vice-chair of its Women’s Section, and as a member of its 2024 Annual Meeting Committee – discussed various aspects of her career and life within the organization. In describing what she enjoys most about being a lawyer, she noted, “I enjoy being in a profession that enables me to communicate all day. I also enjoy helping and advocating for my clients, and solving problems. . . . Finally, there is nothing more exhilarating, fulfilling, or exhausting (in the best way!) than a jury trial.” When asked what advice she would give to someone who just passed the bar, Ms. Bonorchis advised, “You have great potential for success, but you have to work hard and earn it. Accolades do not come right out the gate. Ask questions, be proactive, listen to your mentors’ advice, and proofread! Then, proofread again.”

Ms. Bonorchis also spoke with VADA about her family, noting that she “never felt more proud to be an American” than she did when she attended her husband’s ceremony to become a U.S. citizen. In addition, she described her parents as “the two most interesting people I have ever known,” explaining that her dad was “genius-level intelligent and traveled the world,” while her “beautiful and amazing mom” is her “inspiration for being a full-time working mom and trying to ‘balance it all.’” Ms. Bonorchis further noted that raising her two sons “is an adventure” and that two of her passions are reading and photography.

Ms. Bonorchis is a member of Lewis Brisbois’ General Liability Practice. She works primarily in the areas of insurance defense litigation, with a focus on commercial, construction, architects and engineers, products liability, premises liability, and personal injury matters. A substantial portion of Ms. Bonorchis’ career has included personal injury and construction litigation.
