Steven Lee Speaks With Law360 for Article on Trump Associates Facing Criminal Charges

Atlanta, Ga. (August 7, 2023) – Atlanta Partner Steven H. Lee recently spoke with Law360 for an article titled, “Trump Associates' Loyalty Tested As Indictments Pile Up,” which discusses the growing number individuals in Donald Trump’s “orbit” who now face criminal charges. Mr. Lee was previously quoted in a Law360 article about the former president being indicted by a grand jury for conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

As the article describes, two of Donald Trump's employees have been charged in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, while six unnamed associates are entangled in the election-meddling indictment. These individuals are facing increasing pressure from the government to testify against Trump, and as time goes on, it is likely that at least one individual will turn on the former president.

In commenting upon who in Trump’s sphere might turn first, Mr. Lee told Law360, "Typically, the first in the door gets the best deal, but there's a major obstacle here." He explained that the “obstacle” was that Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira both are on Trump's payroll and that his Save America political action committee was paying their legal fees. Moreover, the fact that the attorneys for these men have represented other defendants in Trump’s circle raises conflict of interest considerations.

Mr. Lee serves as vice chair of Lewis Brisbois’ Government Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice. As a former federal prosecutor, he focuses his practice on government and internal corporate investigations as well as complex litigation matters.
